It doesn't get any easier to see petroglphs than this....just off the main hwy. Lots of different subjects and styles covering thousands of yrs. Like many in the west there is vandalism but worth seeing nonetheless
The petroglyphs are right there....directly at eye level! The fact that this is one of those places that is not a BIG tourist attraction.....to me makes it that much more special. If you are an RVer, the BLM campground there is serene. We dry camped in our motorhome, then did our AM/PM dog walks pasted the petroglyphs and down to... 更多
The Sand Island area is about 5 minutes outside of Bluff, Utah. There are signs to the petroglyph area. You park and only walk a few feet to the site. If you have binoculars, you can see them very well from where you park, or you can walk up a short path to get closer to them. If you have... 更多
For a free site that is close to the main road this is a must. It is a short drive to the rock art and it right next to the road. No hiking needed.
Stopped here first day, en route to hotel; not very impressed. After talking to owners at Cottonwood Steakhouse, went back the next morning. Much more impressive when you look in the right places, markings go much further to left and higher than we thought. Impressive figures, probably an ancient ceremonial site. Stopped a third time for better photographs. Easy access,... 更多
This is a great stop for both petroglyph rookies and experts alike. The panels are accessible right off the campsite by a somewhat bumpy dirt road and a tiny hike up to the wall. There are hundreds of petroglyphs along the stretch of wall and there's a great cross section of the standard images you find in these types of... 更多
It's a beautiful setting along the San Juan River and there used to be a Mormon trading post here, so it is interesting to walk around but the petroglyphs definitely steal the show. This is worth a detour.
We found out about this place having a wonderful dinner at Cottonwlld Steakhouse just up the road. All the locals know about it and at the Recapture Lodge you will find many books and photographs of the extensive studies the owners have done out there. These panels are easily accessible taking a short hike either ot the left or the... 更多
Fantastic and easy reach. You can experience these from your car in bad weather. Do not miss if you're interested in ancient native American history.
