It is the only original building of a university chartered by the Republic of Texas still standing and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It has been in continuous use for school purposes except for two years during and after the Civil War. The building was then used as a hospital and quarters for Confederate soldiers. Now it is a museum and contains period furnishings and artifacts from its earlier days.

We were privileged to visit and learn about the origins as Nacogdoches College and subsequent uses of the facility. The second floor houses the museum and first floor houses a couple of parlors that were originally used as classrooms for males on one side and females on the other side. We highly recommend.

So much to learn from this one building! Highly recommend to everyone! Beautiful inside and out! Takes you back in time to when this building was first built

Fascinating place. The docents are very informative and friendly. Must visit if in the area. They did a fantastic play about the building's history which was well done. Lots of interesting displays. The building was even a temporary hospital during the civil war.

We were amazed at such advanced architecture for an early Texas setting. Large gothic columns greet you at the front door to introduce the original (magnificently crafted) winding staircase. As a builder and historian, I quickly noticed how restoration methods were impeccable by their use of original construction materials and painstaking methods to seamlessly blend them together with the old... 更多

The displays in each room tell stories from multiple time periods, and really give you a feel for what life was like for those who lived there. This is great for kids 8 and up. There is even a schoolroom area.

If you're a history person or an SFA student, you should visit this place. It won't take long to stop in but it's very cool and informational on the inside.

It is small, but the building is interesting. There is an eclectic set of artifacts. Examples that caught my eye were a photograph of 1923 Rotary Club function honoring 17 Confederate veterans (not PC this week!), and a photograph of an ad for a Studebaker Six offered by a dealer named Roland Jones, who I assume is the same Roland... 更多

Good place to spend an hour or two of time learning about local history. They have some great docents that can tell you all sorts of stories about the items and people in the area. First floor used for receptions and parties and is well-restored. Second floor is partially setup as an old schoolroom still. Kids liked to see how... 更多
