We enjoyed looking for & finding different graves of previous Jefferson townspeople. We had a book, written by Mr. Whitington, sold in almost every store, that explained who they were & their contributions & stories of Jefferson. Very interesting!
I'm what people call a "Tombstone Tourist" as I study cemeteries across the state and write about them. This cemetery has been on my "to visit" list for a while, and now I'm just sorry I didn't make the effort to see it sooner! Beautiful old cemetery. Wish there was a visitors guide for the interesting locals buried here, like Diamond Bessie Moore. We are still looking for the two men that were chained together in death and their graves are marked by a chain linking the graves together.
It's like traveling back in time. Seeing the little graves of babies and the graves for the soldiers is just so touching. Being there really moved me.
