This memorial is to the confederate soldiers that served in the civil war. It is very old and has very unique carvings on it. It helps us remember the war and that we should never have any type of slavery again.
It's just kind of there. I walk by it all the time, there's nothing really special about it. Sometimes there's a dixie flag protester, but that's when I turn around and walk away from the bigot.

This memorial has been here long before attending the university back in 1965. It is a part of history and is worth seeing. Some want to change it at the expense of others who would like it to remain.
Sure, times have changed, but those that forget history are likely to repeat it. Besides, this is not in support of racism, slavery, etc...but a memorial to soldiers. I like this memorial. I know that it is not politically correct and some people want it removed, but it is part of the local history. There is a disclaimer notice, which should be enough.
Wonderful memorial that is important to Texas history. It is a nice reminder of the effort that Texas and other states fought for their independence.
