The history of the area is shared in a hands on environment good for old and young alike. Make sure to watch the film presentation, it's very informative and as you make your way through the Museum and the outdoor buildings it helps bring everything into a complete story of the lives of all the people that have called this... 更多
If you're in this part of Eastern Tennessee the Heritage Center is worth a stop. Very good film about the local history and the people who settled the region. Nice artifact collections and restored pioneer buildings.
The woman at the entrance was friendly and helpful. She encouraged us to see the museum even though we only had a little time. Because my husband was a veteran, we were admitted free.we thoroughly enjoyed the exhibits, and will definitely try to go back to see the rest of the site.
If you stop by the Townsend Visitor Center you can pick up a coupon for a dollar off admission which makes it $4 for a senior. Worth every penny. Great exhibits including interactive exhibits and an interesting movie. You can get up close to the buildings and outdoor artifacts.
Kinda expensive admission but well worth it. It was nice to really have an upclose look at how hard mountain life was and the turmoils they had to endure to call the beautiful, majestic Smoky Mountains home. Very enjoyable, loved showing my children that life wasn't always so easy.
We have been in the store before but have never visited the museum until this year. The Walker Sister's quilts were on display and we decided that it would be a great time to go. The displays are well done. If you are interested in the history of the Smokies it is a must see. The interactive displays are fun.... 更多
Pleasant stop on the way to Cade's Cove. Love the walk around viewing the old mountain cabins, barns, and buildings. The old church has a pump organ that works!! Museum is small but well done!! Gives historical perspective of the area. Gift shop is nice!! Staff very friendly. Military gets in free!! Thanks for serving.
We weren't sure what to expect, but wanted a cool place to explore on a hot afternoon. We were very pleasantly surprised. Even though it was hot, we spent a great deal of time exploring the outdoor buildings and enjoyed the fact that we could view the displayed artifacts "up close" - they were not roped off. Inside, the displays... 更多
This is a pretty neat historic overview of the area. A nice loop path with several historic buildings -- they contained furnishings, equipment, old moonshine stills, etc. The main building has some interesting artifacts as well (and is air conditioned!). They do charge a small admission fee, but it is worth it. The only thing I would change is to... 更多
Thanks to the Trip Advisor reviews, we visited this museum, which I would have avoided otherwise. My advice to those visiting the Smokies from Tennessee is to enter via Townsend, rather than the touristy Gatlinburg. I would also advise visiting the Heritage Center before going to Cades Cove. Here, they have a small museum to orient you to the Smokies,... 更多
