The longest Peninsula in Ireland? Single track road - rutted in places - and NO passing places along the final mile - and only spaces for four cars in the small car park at the light-house end!
Be prepared to reverse back and park "off-road" in a field (four wheel drive best).
Final approach to the light-house must be made...
A narrow, winding road past a beach and through pastures ends with the lighthouse. The journey was much better than the lighthouse for us. We asked locals about driving over the pasture road and were told it was okay, "just don't let the alligators bite you".
Well worth the spin out for the panoramic views of Donegal bay. On a clear day the coastline of counties Mayo, Sligo, Leitrim and Donegal can be enjoyed from the one spot. There is also a gem of a small beach for anyone interested in snorkeling about 1km before the lighthouse.
