This is one of the better historic homes to visit because so many of the interior furnishings are original to the house thanks to the mild "hoarding" of previous owners. (Many of the collections and furnishings are still stored.) Our guide, Calvin, was very knowledgeable and gave a great tour. The cost of the tour is $10.
House has been restored and contains the original furniture and belongings of several generations of the same family. The tour provides for an interesting afternoon and the book outlining the life of the final occupant is highly recommended reading.
The house has an excellent view of Knoxville. Entrance fee is pricey. We went on a free day. Docents were dressed in period dress and were knowledgeable about the house and grounds. Handicap access to first floor only. House contains items up until her death. Some items old and some are newer. For example, chair coverings are of horsehair. Silver... 更多
A beautifully restored house, perched on a hill. The tour guide is very friendly and responsive. He was very helpful with e-mail regarding my visit, and making sure he was there. He even waited with the group (of 3 others) so that I could join them. The guide is full of anecdotes of all aspects - the house, the history,... 更多
We turned up here on a confederate Memorial Day and were invited to join in with the memorial service, we were taken by bus and brought back, couldn't ask for a more friendly welcome. The tour around the house was extremely good, we were given loads of information and just loved going around the house. The people looking after this... 更多
Our family enjoyed our tour of the Mabry Hazen House. It was once used as a headquarters by the Union army during the civil war. The family history if intriguing. Because a member of the family lived in the house late into the 20th century, the items in the house originally belonged to the family. They are not replicas or... 更多
Old homes and history are not my strength, BUT from local intrigue...hearsay leading to an old fashioned duel among high society southern gentlemen...to the mentality of the eastern Tennesseans toward to secession issue, the guide (wish I could remember his name!) was an excellent story teller and answered every one of my questions to my complete satisfaction. House is truly... 更多
If you are a Civil War buff this is a "must see" and if you are really lucky your Docent will be Karen! Our guide, Karen was in full period dress and seemed completely entertained telling us the best tales that are part of the history of the home even though I am sure she has related them hundreds of... 更多
