A must see for Civil War and history buffs, Carnton Plantation was built in 1826 by former Nashville Mayor Randal McGavock and was frequently visited by those shaping Tennessee and American history, including President Andrew Jackson. By the time of the Civil War, Carnton was home to John and Carrie McGavock. On November 30, 1864, the site was witness to the Battle of Franklin. Carnton became the largest field hospital in the area following the terrible battle, and in 1866 the McGavock Confederate Cemetery was established nearby. Today the cemetery holds the remains of nearly 1,500 Southern soldiers.

The Carnton Plantation is a fascinating Mansion in Franklin Tennessee. The grounds surrounding the home are beautiful and a great place to walk to take in the history. The house itself is fascinating. Throughout it you can see the blood stains of soldiers during the Civil War. Our tour guide was very informative about the history of the home. The... 更多

Wonderful tour, very knowledgeable and passionate tour guide, Beautiful sunset scenery with a new respect for how we have become who we are as a nation. Call ahead and determine tour times. No inside house pictures allowed.

This old plantation was on the edge of the battle of Franklin. Five confederate generals were killing and they were initially laid out on the porch. The plantation was used as a hospital and there are still blood stains visible on the hardwood floor in what was the operating room. Don't forget to visit the cemetery on the property.

The plantation was lovely. Even though it was in late December, it was warm enough to tour the grounds & visit the cemetery on the property.

These three homes--the Carnton Plantation, Lotz House, and Carter House--in Franklin, Tennessee, tell the story of the Civil War from a rare, if not unique, perspective: that of civilians caught up in the maelstrom. All other Civil War battlefields I have visited focus on the field of battle and the combatants. In this case, the battlefield was the front and... 更多

Our tour guide was so passionate and well spoken, she had me in tears at the end. We learned so much about the people behind the events and their stories - it was wonderful.

The Plantation and the surrounding buildings and grounds were very impressive. Once again the tour guides were very good at relaying the stories of the Civil War and what happened here. The grounds and cemetery were also very interesting and very happy to hear that they were able to reclaim some of the surrounding area. Very nice that these people... 更多

Went to the Plantation on a beautiful Saturday in January. Truly enjoyed hearing the history of the battle and the home's use during the battle. The guide was knowledgeable and entertaining. We saw all three homes in Franklin that day and enjoyed each equally. Don't miss any, they are all worth the time spent. The cost is very reasonable.

This was the second time I took this tour and it was just as informative and interesting as the first. The house is beautiful and the grounds are very well kept. We enjoyed every part of it.

My mom and I visited Carnton and really enjoyed it. The gift shop is nice, if a bit small, the museum is decent, and the house is lovely. Grounds need a bit of work but the restored garden is lovely. Cemetery visit is key.
