The Rhea County Courthouse is a functioning courthouse and museum. The basement floor is loaded with memorabilia from days gone by and the famous Scope Trials. Stopped in to see the Scoops trial courthouse and history. Has a small museum in the lower floor. The courthouse was in use the day we were there so couldn't go in. Was impressed that they still used the courthouse.
As an officer of the courts I have visited the building often for document issuance and recording. I am always at awe with the history it holds. The energy is palpable even thought I never enjoyed the festival. You can bet I will next years.
I'm not going to tell you a secret...but a little starving town in the depression pulled themselves up by the bootstraps.....I'm not going to tell you the lie that is still printed in the history books. Last weekend we went to see the Scopes Festival in Dayton, Tennessee. The highlight for us was a reenactment of the 1925 Scopes trial. It was phenomenal!!! If you find your way in Dayton in mid July get a ticket...but don't wait as all weekends are sold out in advance.
The Rhea County Courthouse hosted the play "Front Page News" on two weekends in July this year (7/16 & 17 and 7/ 23 & 24) The County Courthouse located in Dayton was were the 1925 bible vs. evolution "Scopes Monkey Trials" were held. We visited the Rhea County Courthouse on a Saturday during the annual Strawberry Festival in Dayton, Tn. During the festival is a great time to visit as there are multiple activities taking place including a parade, various performances, food and craft vendors and of course strawberries for sale. As other reviews note there isn't a ton of touristy things to... 更多
On a mini road trip we decided to make a brief stop at this courthouse. We found the building and entered through security. We were greeted by the person on duty. We told him we wanted to see the museum. He walked us over to the elevator and told us we could also see the courtroom where the trial was... 更多
