We toured the Old Courhouse Museum, there is a lot of local history there and definitely worth the time to check out all the exhibits. The tour is free and the museum employees are very friendly and knowlegeable.
I understand it was built by the one architect they brag about around here, a certain Wallace Leroy Dow who was born in New Hampshire and who built basically everything they talk about in Sioux Falls: the Courthouse, the Jail, the house that Mr. Pettigrew purchased later etc etc. Lots of stone, ok. Interesting collection of exhibits about the local area and beyond. There's something here to catch the interest of everyone in the family!
The old courthouse almost went with a wrecking ball. Thank goodness it was saved. At one time there were many more Victorian buildings all over Sioux Falls and many were not as fortunate. It is good to see historical preservation. The building is lovingly upkept with exhibitions filling the rooms of a time long past. The staff do a good... 更多
Small but well done displays. Originally visited to see the coin display but was pleasantly surprised by the George Catlin exhibit. Place has a lot of character.
We stopped by here because we saw that it had a penny machine on our Penny Finder app. The Tornado Tree was very interesting, and we learned a little bit about the historic courthouse.
