If you are looking for a Laura Ingalls Wilder experience, choose this site. It featured displays of different home types, a barn with kittens to pet and a number of hands-on experiences (clothes washing, wheat grinding, rope making, and even team of horses driving!). We mistakenly went to the home tours first. This is MUCH better!
This is a wonderful place to experience what Laura wrote about. Very educational and hands on, living history. It really is like going back in time. Lots of little girls wearing prairie clothes, beautiful scenery, and plenty of activities to do. I think the owners are doing a wonderful service to their community in keeping this as a working farm,... 更多
My sister, her two kids and I visited during a Laura Ingals Wilder road trip! We stayed in one of the covered wagons and loved every second of it. The kids road horses and a little carriage, took a great covered wagon ride (they even helped drive it!), played in the school and the best part for the kids was... 更多
My 9 year old daughter and I visited the Ingalls Homestead the week of July 18th and it was just incredible. We recently read several of the books and i grew up watching the series. They've done a great job of showing what the Ingalls life was like while they lived in De Smet additionally, it's a great lesson in... 更多
If your kids have enjoyed the LIW books and/or the TV show, this little jewel is something that you can't miss. De Smet was so much fun for my pre-teen and I who have enjoyed reading the books (There are two sites in De Smet, this one and one in town. Don't miss either one). Kids of all ages will... 更多
I feel in love with this place before I got there because the website was so well deaigned. first impressions of the gift shop were the same, great layout. after having just been to walnut grove, MN for a Laura trip, I was way impressed with the amount my homeschooled children could do. tons of activities and nothing was overly... 更多
Grandchildren loved it, what a wonderful place to feel like a pioneer. The open prairie, cats in the hay barn. pony rides, twist hay, grind wheat. Wash clothes on an old washboard. Many hours of fun. Just what Grandma Ordered
This place is great! We camped in a covered wagon- tight quarters, but fun. The wood for the fire was decent- but bring your own fire starter. Along with the other campers, we had free reign of the homestead after hours and could visit the buildings and run free. It was quiet and peaceful. The bathrooms were not that great.... 更多
We really had a great time here and it brought back memories of when we were kids reading the book series. There's quite alot to do especially for youngsters. The staff were dressed up in pioneer dresses and they had an awesome wagon ride where you could ride out accross the fields. They even let the kids hold the reins.... 更多
So much to see and do, plan on spending the whole day. Experience what it was like to being on the prairie in the 1800's. Lots of activities for the kids; pony rides, making corn cob dolls, grinding wheat, etc. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable.
