This is an old WW II fortification that I have been going to for years, even before they turned it into a park, It contains the old big gun implacements and there are even some old machine gun nests set on the hill. Great chance to explore and get a history lesson on how RI and the US protected its... 更多
A beautiful place to walk and enjoy the salt air. This is what Rhode Island is all about and Fort Wetherill is very special. No crowds & no admission! Simply, back to nature!
It's so sad that this historic site is covered in graffiti because it's so beautiful otherwise. There is free parking. There are amazing views of Fort Adams and the Newport harbor. There is just a short dirt trail that's somewhat steep (not wheelchair accessible) towards the area with the views. Another good place for a picnic!
Stopped by while touring around Rhode Island and enjoyed the park. We met up with a park employee who gave us a short history lesson and some tips about where to find the best views of the harbour. The Fort itself has been reduced to the foundations and is covered in graffiti...shame since it is a historical site. It is... 更多
We pulled off along a scenic drive to visit Ft. Wetherill and were pleasantly surprised by the amount of things to see. The fort itself is interesting but it is sad to see the amount of graffiti and garbage on this historic site. Our kids loved climbing the different rocks and cliffs and the views were breathtaking!
My husband & I have visited Beavertail Park several times & wanted to see what Fort Werherill Park had to offer. It's wonderful!! We began our visit at the fort itself, which is sadly covered with graffiti. Putting that aside, we explored the tunnels & rooms of the fort, imagining what it must have been like when it functioned as... 更多
We were driving by this park and noticed the cement walls of the Fort covered with graffiti and decided to take a look. It was very interesting with all the history here, a lot of underground hallways connecting the different areas of the Fort it was defiantly very exciting.
I lived in Rhode Island for 20 years and I went to the fort easily 4 times a month. It has amazing views of the ocean, beautiful cliffs and awesome forts and passageways to climb through and explore. Jamestown is a cute little town with a lot of great places to eat and drink. Highly recommend visiting this place if... 更多
