It's a small place, nothing major but it's nice to visit nonetheless. It talks about the region's farming history and the like and it's interesting to see and hear about.
Just was there for a lecture about the Umberger murder back in the 1800's - interesting and descendants of both the people that were hung and the man murdered were in attendance. Very interesting
The Somerset Historical Center provides tours and special events to highlight the history of this county. It is both educational and entertaining for all ages.
10 years ago I spent a few days at the Somerset Historical Center Library and enjoyed the beauty of their facility and excellent resources. This trip I spent 3 whole days 9-5 and found an incredible amount of information on my ancestors. We went to the Somerset Historical Centers Mountain Craft Days and dispite the rain we had a good time. There were people in period clothes showing all kind hand crafts such as a man demonstrating how to make saurekraut another was showing how to make baskets from white oak. We were fortunate to arrive just a a class of third graders were observing a movie. We were allowed to join them for the movie and the tour. It is definitely worth your time to visit this site.
I went here searching for family history documents and while I didn't find a lot I did not leave empty-handed. This museum is most likely run on state funds and the building is fairly new (20 years old), but like any archive, there is still plenty modernizing to be done.
