I have to admit that I was expecting a much bigger statue -- but this one is literally just life size! A nice break to stop on a road trip between Canberra and Albury. There is also a shop there where you can grab a snack.
Turn off the main highway to see this Australian legend. The statue of the dog is small and sits on a plinth in a fountain pool. It must be an Aus thing,the statue is nothing special,smaller than expected,there is a gift shop and coffee shop there and toilets if you need them but you can get better services up the road at the truck stop,not being from Aus I don't get it.
Seems to me every traveller who has done the Hume Hwy between Melbourne and Sydney stops at this famous landmark. However, there seems to be a new twist, take along your pooch and take a photo with the dog monument. It was awesome to stop and see the dog on the tucker box. i have stopped heaps of times here and each time I get something different out of the place. Doesn't matter is you are on the way to Sydney or from Sydney stop grab some food and take a break.. Its a piece of Australian History..
