The Caen Hill Locks are a must when visiting Somerset, it is a truly unique set of 29 locks with a rise of 237ft all within 2 miles. There is a lovely old tea shop on site with tables inside and out serving hot and cold snacks, teas and coffee, some interesting old pictures adorn the walls and the toilets... 更多
We were staying at the nearby campsite, and decided to walk into Devizes, along the canal.The locks are quite a sight, and feat of engineering. Lovely Winter scenery along the way, and the volunteers from the Canal and River Trust were on hand with lots of information. Lots of photo opportunities. Devizes is well worth a visit, too.
third visit to the caen hill locks. Cant get enough of the view and relaxing atmosphere its like stepping back in time. And great to see the barges go through the many locks, it never fails to impress how they many so many up a steep hill- gongoozerlling apparently! what a spectacular set of canal locks looking down hill from the cafe they seem to go on forever the several photos available do not do justice to a first hand look & if your in the area its a must see experience.
The Caen Hill Locks at Devizes are almost a highlight of a canal walk. And it was great to see a man actually using the locks to allow his canal further up. I found it very enlightening and my younger siblings definitely seemed intrigued. It was lovely to see that a viable part of English history is still in use... 更多
