This is a small but enlightening museum. The history of mental health in itself is interesting, but this was a museum of this specific locale as well. There were biographies of former patients, stories of significant events, as well as various instruments used in treatment. It is only $4.00 and worth the time to investigate.

You may or may not enjoy the history of the medical practices that are shown and talked about at the museum but it is enlightening!

Few ailments are so misunderstood as mental illness. This unique museum takes a frank and sometimes frightening look at how we have treated those we considered insane. Much progress has been made but there is still room to improve. The museum offers not only artifacts from the hospital's history but also the rarely heard stories of the people who lived... 更多

The exhibits were all educational and really cool to see. They had old medical equipment mixed in with a lot of history that was really cool to see. The volunteers are really happy to answer any questions you have and to tell you more about the property and history. It took about an hour to see/read/absorb everything and is close... 更多

`One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest' was filmed here. Interesting to see history of treatment of the mentally ill. Helpful staff. Only $4 to get in. Nice if it you need something to do indoors.

Although we've heard some stories about abuses in the past through movies and books, etc regarding people being put into institutions and being kept there without being helped, or maybe even against their will, the stories that one reads about on the self-guided tour in this museum really makes you realize that real people went through unbelievable suffering because of... 更多

Aside from what the hospital represents, the museum is very interesting. Going back to the early days up to present treatment. Also the filming location of One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest. Also watch the ground for the purple glass tiles. They let light in for the underground tunnels.

I took my kids (ages 6, 12, 17) to the museum on mental health operated in the front of the this building. I believe it was $4/adult, $2/child entrance fee, which supports the museum operation. The museum was full of historical stories about actual patients, and offered a look into how the Oregon State Hospital was built and modified, as... 更多

You get to see the things you never knew were happening to the poor folks put in these places. And the reasons they were put in there will amaze you.

I have been wanting to go to this museum for a while and finally made the time. The building, built in 1883, is beautiful. The grounds are well-manicured with gorgeous blooming flowers. Approaching the museum, the vast size is overwhelming. Inside, I was greeted by a very kind volunteer. The displays range from fascinating to utmost sadness. There is one... 更多
