Want to get away from the hustle and bustle of Downtown? Take your bike and go to Sauvie Island. You will think you drove 100 miles. It is actually only 12 miles from town.
I enjoyed an August Saturday afternoon on Sauvie Island beach area. It was a nice drive and decent beach area. One advice is don't forget that you need to purchase a parking pass. Look online for locations.

I love the wonderful oak groves, beaches, and fresh produce from the farms. This is a day trip. Don't rush. Breathe in the air, stroll down paths, explore the corn mazes. This is a fabulous place for kids and adults. The pumpkin patch fun is unforgettable.
Great place to go birding during migration seasons in the Fall and Spring. Many good spots to see birds. You need to get a wildlife permit at a local store. And watch out for bike fanatics, they love the level roads.
Drive to the north end of Sauvie Island and you can walk on the beach to the lighthouse. It's called Warrior Rock Lighthouse, 6 miles out and back. Great for running and or with kids, no elevation.
As an Oregonian, I have been out there many times over the years, to pick cucumbers for pickling; and ALL kinds of berries; cherries; seeds; honey; etc...
