I was able to learn so much about Pendleton's history! The red lights district truly has a colorful background, including prostitution, prohibition, gambling, China workers, and opium dens. This place is definitely why you come to Pendleton.
I learned so much... great tour, fantastic docent (her enthusiasm shined throughout). I was saddened by certain aspects- the Chinese in particular were treated SO horribly! The working girls were also taken advantage of - but realize choices were quite limited back in the day. Well worth the time & small admission fee- please tip those that share their passion... 更多
We went on this tour on a whim, and it was amazing. Our guide was fabulous and very knowledgeable. It was so fun to learn the history of this small town. Depending on whether you want your children to hear about prostitution, gambling and drinking, you may not want to bring young ones, but it was very fun and not... 更多
The docent did a great job telling us about the history of the underground. I liked the way it was staged to get a feel of how it might have been in its hay day. The donations of original items were a plus.
The tour was very interesting and our tour guide made history fun. She was knowledgeable and answered all our questions. Customer service was great. To make reservations, you have to call the office; no online capabilities. There are several sets of stairs throughout the 90 minute tour; probably not suitable for individuals with mobility issues.
Of course we never imagined there was such an elaborate system of connected basements and tunnels under this lovely old town and the tour was interesting. Informative tour guide. Would be nice to go at your own pace as a 90 minute tour was a little too long for us. If you are interested in some of the quirky history of Pendleton you will enjoy it - fun to explore the network of tunnels under the town.
I always knew these places existed under some cities, but it was amazing to actually see it. A great way to see a different part of Pendletons history. The tour was very well done and informative. It lasted 90 minutes but it didn't seem that long.
