We pulled off to see this on a drive between Newport and Depoe Bay. It was halfway between the high and low tides so the water activity and the bowl was not really anything remarkable to see. Cool to see and worth the short drive. Glad we stopped as the Punchbowl is an Oregon Coast landmark. Unfortunately, we were there at low tide so the waves crashing inside the Punchbowl were not as impressive as some of the pictures I've seen. However, the surrounding scenery was beautiful. We were staying in Newport and decided to drive to Heceta Head. So glad we did! The views along the highway are amazing! Devils Punchbowl is gorgeous, with lots of interesting geographical features.
This also a creation of Mother Nature which is amazing, but when the tide is calm and out, its not all that Devilish... but you can see how dangerous it could be in nasty weather - and why its called the Devils Punchbowl. If you are going along the Oregon Coast, its a must stop to see!
The tide was going out when we arrived. Didn't have time to wait, so we enjoyed it from above. The vistas are amazing! I could have stayed there longer. Next time will be sure to check the local tides.
I would have loved to explore down inside of the punchbowl but conditions did not allow us to do that. I would say go to this spot and cross your fingers.
Having grown up in the Pacific NW, I'd been to Devil's Punchbowl as a child, but really didn't remember it. After more than 50 years, I returned and was awed - and astonished I didn't recall visiting before! It is spectacular.
