The Mary D Hume story is some very interesting history about the Oregon coast and its voyages to Alaska. There is much more to read about if you do a little bit of research. I took a picture of it and told my wife we were buying it to move in! LOL It sits in the Rogue River near the bridge at Gold Beach.
This is just one of many odd and unique roadside attractions along the Oregon Coast. This tugboat sunk at its moorings years ago. It is slowly decaying. It might be worth a quick 5-minute stop to get a photo. It is located on the north end of Gold Beach just after you cross the Rogue River Bridge.
Not much is left of old Mary but it is still cool to look at. Don't go expecting it to look like the picture above as most of it has deteriorated at this point. But still worth a little peek if you have time to kill before you jump on the Boats.
Last saw the Mary D. 3 years ago. Golly! She's become a shell of her past and a pile of rubble. She's fading fast and I suspect in another couple of years she may be gone. What a great old dame in Rogue River history. Sorry to see her go!
This vessel is history...........a must see before the town "do-gooders" vote to have it removed as an eye sore (shame ON YOU)..... this piece of history should be preserved for all.......to remind us of...........the hard working folks..........
I check this little boat out every time I'm in Gold Beach--it's northeast of the jetty, off to the side where you get the Jet and Mail Boats. She's sinking slowly, but still afloat! Worth a look, there's something haunting and true about her.
