We were so lucky to visit the museum and be introduced to Mr. 'Watermelon' Campbell. He knows everything. He answered my goofy questions as well as my train knowledgeable cousins very detailed questions. He is in the pictures, on the certificates, he is Mr. Train! This museum has something for everyone kids to adults. We enjoyed the memorabilia, the model... 更多
Ages 10-58 years old, 6 of us. In general I'd gage our family as having a minimal interest in trains. Yet We found this a great way to spend $5 a person and 2 hours. Anything and everything about trains, what was used in trains, and the trains itself. Go and enjoy this little gem of a train graveyard and... 更多
When we arrived we were greeted by a man and his grandfather (I can't remember their names). The grandfather started the museum with items he has collected over the years. He will guide you through the building to see items such as dining sets from each railroad, lanterns, posters, tools, etc. There are a few working scale model sets. Outside,... 更多
We were basically the only ones there that afternoon, and the old man who owns the museum loves to share his collection, and his love of railroading with the public. Very much worth spending a few hours at, if you are interested in trains.
Loved it! My 15yr old son loved it too! Many of the pieces in this museum are the private collection of its caretaker/curator. Still a serious active collector at 95yrs old, he has created a most impressive collection of railroad dining car china dishware! He shared priceless stories about how he aquired several of the pieces as well as stories... 更多
Firstly let me state that my recommended 2-3 hour length of visit could easily be extended, there is so much to see both indoors & outside where you'll find a steam loco plus a few diesels & various items of rolling stock. Indoors there is so much to see of various items of 'railwayana', you name it & it's there!... 更多
Watermelon" Campbell conducted our tour of the museum. He has a passion for the collection and memorabilia and a vast knowledge of all of it because he LIVED much of it!
This is approximately 30 minutes off of Interstate 35 but is well worth the trip. They accept donations and have a few gifts for sale other than that it's free. The staff was quite friendly and knowledgeable and seemed pleased to have guests. There is plenty to see both inside and outside in the yard. Several of the railcars are... 更多
