We happened onto this by accident, but were glad we went. There were several buildings and mostly self-guided. There were volunteers to answer questions, if needed.
First stop at the Milan Historical Museum is the General Store to purchase admission stickers. The store is cute and actually has a small collection of penny candy. What a wonderful and informative visit. The tour guide was full of information regarding "the inventor", Thomas Edison and his family. I never realized first of all he was nearly totally deaf due to a childhood mishap and how MANY things he invented. Well worth the visit.
We had a great time at the Milan Museum once we found a parking space and figured out where to get tickets. Guests pay in the general store in the northeast corner of the complex, not at the museum office which faces Edison Drive. We came here after visiting Edison's birthplace, which is just a few steps away. In fact, one of the galleries here, the Galpin Gallery, is the former home of the doctor who delivered Edison. We got to the building on Saturday about 12:50 and they open at 1pm but the person in the store allowed us to walk around and look at things which got me to buy a few items.
