Buscot Park is the home of the Henderson family and the present Lord...

Buscot Park is the home of the Henderson family and the present Lord Faringdon with his eldest son James and his wife Lucinda. They look after the property on behalf of the National Trust as well as the family collection of pictures, furniture, ceramics and objects d'art, known as the Faringdon Collection, which is displayed in the house.

Built between 1780 and 1783 for a local landowner, Edward Loveden Townsend, the estate was purchased in 1889 by Lord Faringdon's great-grandfather, Alexander Henderson, a financier of exceptional skill and ability, who in 1916 was created the 1st Lord Faringdon. He greatly enlarged the house, commissioned Harold Peto to design the famous Italianate water garden, and laid the foundations of the Faringdon Collection. Among his many purchases were Rembrandt's portrait of 'Pieter Six', Rossetti's portrait of 'Pandora', and Burne-Jones's famous series, 'The Legend of the Briar Rose'.

Among his many purchases, his grandson and heir, Gavin Henderson, added considerably to the collection, acquiring important furniture designed by Robert Adam and Thomas Hope, and was instrumental in returning the house to its late eighteenth century appearance.

The family, together with their fellow Trustees, continue to add to the collection, to freshen its display, and to enliven the gardens and grounds.

We are regular visitors to the grounds, which provide nice scenery and pleasant walks. Plenty of car parking. Is National Trust with restricted hours to view the house

I jumped at the chance to join an Oxford group on a bus tour to Buscot House one afternoon to see my first English manor house. Not too big or overwhelming, which I liked, and very tastefully refurbished by Lord Farringdon with stupendous art and artifacts, and beautifully landscaped and extensive gardens. It was a really lovely place. I asked... 更多

Superb house, with magnificent paintings and furniture, very impressive. Has a beautiful walled garden with lots of lovely roses and plants, and superb landscaped grounds to wander around in. Been here three times and would re-visit. There's plenty to see.

Really interesting house and lovely gardens. The murals were particularly fascinating. Good café, very reasonably priced. Unusually for a National Trust house there was no shop, but an excellent (and cheap!) guide book and cards were available.

Buscot Park is not your usual National Trust property and is all the better for it. It is owned by the Trust, but run on the NT's behalf by Lord Faringdon, descendant of the original owners. Consequently, it doesn't have the NT's corporate image stamped across it - no ubiquitous souvenir shop, no expensive cafe. Instead just an elegant house... 更多

We were lucky, in that the weather was immaculate and so we could enjoy the grounds. Stunning landscaping, with interesting statues and the like, and a delightful 'Swinging Garden' with swing seats surrounding beds planted with white flowers, with a beautiful mobile statue in the middle made of giant sycamore seeds. Interesting house with amazing Burne Jones room.

But what an end of the day - visiting Buscot park is just awesome. Especially the walled garden is my favourite. Did do a tour also through the rest of the park and was just wowed by the views. When you realise how big it is you do forget about anything else. You can see to the horizon and think... 更多

We arrived on an afternoon when only grounds were open. Car parking was good and close to the gardens. Although we could not go into the house we were able to see its exterior - it looks quite interesting. The gardens are very varied and offer lots of surprises not least some replica terracotta soldiers and an Egyptian Avenue. There... 更多

The Country House is well with a visit, especially if you are National Trust members. I lovely house with extensive art collection. Nice walks around the gardens - don't miss the water garden. Te walled garden is very peaceful and cool. An excellent day out.

Being national trust members we visit many many properties. This wasn't among the best. The house was lovely and the gardens gorgeous. However, aside from two lovely staff members (one in the shop and one in the house) the others didn't seem like they wanted to be there at all, very frosty in their attitude. Unusual for a national trust... 更多
