Union Mill is a Grade I listed smock mill in Cranbrook, Kent, England which has been restored to working order. It is the tallest smock mill in the UK.

Standing at the highest point overlooking the historic Wealden town of Cranbrook and maintained in working order, this Grade 1 Listed Building is the tallest surviving "smock mill" in the British Isles. Managed by Volunteers of the Cranbrook Windmill Association, the windmill is open at regular times from the end of March to the end of September each year. Educational and other Group Visits are welcome throughout the year.

Whenever there is sufficient wind, wheat is ground and, subject to availability, the Stoneground Wholemeal Flour can be purchased from the mill shop on open days.

I'd seen the Windmill when we drove into Cranbrook, we were staying locally so had a wander down to see this Windmill, sadly it was closed and only opened certain days. but we had a quick walk around the outside of it and read about it from the little information board outside.

This is one of the few working mills left in Kent. The mill is only open on certain days and is run by volunteers so it is worthwhile checking ahead before you go. All of the volunteers looked after a different floor and as you ascended a steep ladder you were greeted and explained about the workings that occurred on... 更多

Union Mill's white weatherboarded presence gives a lovely unusual atmosphere to the Sissinghurst end of Cranbrook by day, and at night the floodlit mill is just magical in appearance. Returning to this area after three years, it was one of the top things I wanted to visit, as I do t know why we didn't go last time. Probably the... 更多

we stumbled across this one by accident and decided to take a look, it was free and opened by volunteers who are happy to tell you the history, we were able to climb to the top and there are postcards for sale as a memento, this was an interesting little gem to add to our holiday experience.

We popped in here to be met with very friendly, smiling and knowledgeable staff/volunteers who were so proud of their beautiful windmill.

It is so unusual to find such an interesting place that doesn't have a large entrance fee; they just ask for donations! The guides were friendly and knowledgeable and were very tolerant with young children who just wanted to get straight up to the top. The windmill seems well set out an informative.

This is a fully renovated 18th century smock mill, believed to be the only one left of it's size in the UK. maintained and staffed by volunteers

The Mill is only open on selected dates, a visit is free (but do contribute to the maintenance fund) It is staffed by enthusiastic volunteers who will tell you everything you need to know. For a younger generation who think flour comes from Sainsbury's it must be an eye opener to see how it was made 200 years ago. A... 更多

Visited on a Saturday afternoon. All the volunteers were extremely knowledgeable and obviously very passionate about preserving the windmill and it's history. The mill still produces flour when possible. Great to learn that some of today's expressions come from milling. Entry is free but a donation is welcomed. There is a video to watch which is very informative - good... 更多
