Fantastic opportunity to look at the history of the area and learn more about the development of the town from market town to thriving community.
A local museum located in what was originally a farm house and has been council offices. The gardens have been refurbished and provide a pleasant local park, whilest the building contains a good selection of local material relating to local potteries, strawberry growing, and a good selection of local flint finds.
I spent an hour looking around. The exhibits give a good idea of the local history and background. I particularly liked the part about the local brickwork. The bricks having been used in the Albert Hall as well as Parliament Buildings, Cape Town.
Lots of local history - for example, I was unaware of the strawberry growing in this area The section devoted to the history of the kings and queens of England and any local links was fascinating. Well worth a visit - and it's free!
Have lived in Fareham for 25 years and it took me a while to pop in and have a look at this place. I believe it used to be the Fareham District Council building at one point until they built the ugly concrete building they now sit. I was very impressed with the service and setting which is within the museum building next to Fareham bus station. Coffee was £1.50 and the cake was delicious and also reasonably priced. There is a grassed area outside the rear of the building to enjoy in better weather and a small gift shop. At present there is a dinosaur exhibition... 更多
