Absolutely worth the visit - we were blown away by the enormity and sheer beauty of the Donna Cave - a very short drive from Chillagoe. We attempted to stumble our way through a few unguided tours at different caves but it really is worth paying the money to tour with a ranger from National Parks. The way the caves... 更多
If you enjoy caves you will not be disappointed with three separate caves to tour. All are different, some fully lite and others you have a torch which the kids love. A lot of work by the park rangers has been done to give good access to all.
The guided cave tours are what most people come to Chillagoe for and I would recommend travellers do all 3 caves, but spread them over two days so you can see some of the other sites in the area as well (Chillagoe Smelters, Court House Heritage Museum, Balancing Rock and the local Water Swimming Hole). Man am I glad we did...the scenery on the drive was interesting and very easy, notwithstanding there's 3 or 4 stretches of dirt road as you get close to Chillagoe. Nothing too difficult... 更多
During the long drive to Chicago one is reminded often to book at the "Hub" by numerous signs. No phone number is provided however mobile phones don't work in most places out there. We arrived at "The Hub" at 4pm only to find the booking office CLOSED. Apparently is closes at 3:30 but there is no mention of that on... 更多
After a long drive along 'Wheelbarrow Way' we arrived in Chillagoe and stepped back in time. The town is set along the main street with a Post Office/Hotel/Bar a General Store and The Hub. Tickets for the Caves are sold in the Hub which has an information centre, museum and toilets, but no refreshments. The Caves are a 6k drive... 更多
Local bloke ran the tour of and shared his obvious passion. Fab experience, you won't go wrong. I'm a big fan of caves and this is world-class. Tip: If you have a choice just do Donna.
