A wonderful example of arts and crafts architecture, full of period furniture, ceramics, tapestries, paintings and other crafts. Early examples of electric lighting are particularly interesting, and there is currently a small but fascinating exhibition of embroidery. The gardens are delightful, and include a large working kitchen garden, a shady, damp quarry with ferns and azaleas, and currently borders full... 更多
At Standen it was raining a bit, and we had a quick run round the tulips, a bit the worse from the wind. Curious were the ’tulip trees’. These were tulips set into bushes which gave the impression that they were arboreal. As I have been here before and reviewed it, no more to add.
We loved this beautiful place as a whole family. The house I must say is the most warm inviting property NT own that we've been to. You feel like the family had just popped out for the day! Chickens out in the gardens where veg had all been planted made our youngest Son very entertained. Workers all so friendly and... 更多
Having a keen interest in the Arts and Craft movement, I was very excited at the prospect of visiting this property whilst on holiday in Sussex. I found it very disappointing. Everything on paper looks promising - Philip Webb designed, Morris & Co furnishing, pre-Raphaelite artwork, De Morgan ceramics - but all aspects were underwhelming. The design of the house... 更多
NT Members, we had visited Standen ten years before. However, last time we had the Mother in Law in tow, so my memory not a happy one... JOKE! A Sunday morning and the weather was wet. Very wet. But despite the rain we set off round the small garden and loved the display of tulips which were stunning and sadly... 更多
Popped over on a nice sunny day for a bite in the barn which was lovely as always. Nice sandwich and scone yum! The great surprise was the last manning the entrance found us out and gave us some short notice tickets for a tour of the water tower. A space normally off limits. A lovely surprise and a great... 更多
Lovely gardens and house together with good staff make a lovely place to visit.. Worth a go. We will be back, as the gardens have the most wonderful views.
Standen is an outstanding example of an Arts and Craft house with the full complement of Morris wallpapers and fabrics, William de Morgan tiles and pottery, Webb architecture, Burne -Jones' tapestries - and so on. If you are at all interested in William Morris and his entourage then this house is a 'must'. The gardens are also very interesting although... 更多
Lovely house with exceptional examples of William Morris wallpaper and furniture. As always the staff are friendly and helpful. However, today visit was to see the tulips and I was not disappointed with the impressive display around the house's terraces.Bluebells were in full bloom in the glen area and surrounding woods. From the top terrace there are outstanding view of the reservoir... 更多
This was my second visit to this beautiful house and gardens. My friend who is a NT life member treated me to a visit to view the tulip spectacle and I was not disappointed! The tulip were absolutely splendid, and the planting scheme just a riot of colour and different types mixed together to create an absolutely stunning and very... 更多
This is a fine 19th century Arts and Crafts house owned by the National Trust with beautiful gardens and a more extensive network of paths going off into the surrounding countryside. There are spectacular views from the garden terrace to the heights of Ashdown Forest. The barn cafe is a fine old place for lunch, though it can get busy... 更多
