We took the ferry from Port McNeill to Alter Bay. the ferry was perfect: modern, comfortable and the scenery was fab. I saw some orca's in the distance and there was a pod of harbor porpoises following the ferry for a while. An enjoyable tip. We sailed on a Monday and it turned out that the no 1 attraction we... 更多
If you are in the North Vancouver Island area looking for an activity in the rain or sunshine, the ferry to Alert Bay on Cormorant Island is an excellent one day round trip. The cultural centre is well laid out and not overwhelming. Lot of accessible artifacts with local flavour. The waterfront is now well cared for, picturesque and there... 更多
great day trip but if you are going to stay over must be self contained very little on either island for grocery stores or hotels but that is part of the charm. Crew was very helpful and polite
this ferry is small and full of characters. everyone seems to know each other! the captain warned us of marine mammals up ahead then slowed the ferry and changed course for the humpback who gave us a great show.
We left the car in the day parking ($5.00) and walked on to the ferry. The Port McNeill facility is only 3 years old so it is very clean and modern with an enclosed waiting area for walk-on passengers. There's a comfortable lounge with lots of seating and vending machines for drinks and snacks. We had purchased a BC Ferries... 更多
We did a drive on at the Sointula Ferry and a walk on to Alert Bay. Both islands have an abundance of history and some great hiking trails. Alert Bay has a wonderful U'mista Cultural Centre as well as a burial site with many beautiful totem poles.
Port McNeill is interesting but Alert Bay (Cormorant Island) and Sointula are a revelation; this is Canada at its best (at least during our holiday on the west coast). Do try to stay over for a night - we made it at Alert Bay but not on Sointula - they are places of beauty and tranquillity well away from the... 更多
What can you say about a ferry ride...hmm 100 words. Lots of room to sit upstairs, also they have a sundeck, was windy, but worth standing up there for the ride. Beautiful views of all the islands etc.
We enjoyed our BC Ferries travel to Alert Bay, especially the small-town feeling. It's easy to buy your ticket, easy to get on and off the ferry, and the people working there are all friendly and approachable. The waiting room and washroom was clean and well-stocked, and the entire boat was in excellent shape. You only pay when leaving Port... 更多
We take every ferry we can find on our travels, this one takes you to beautiful Sointula and/or Alert Bay, both of which we loved. Both islands had lots of great little shops, galleries, and restaurants to explore, great scenery to photograph in every direction.
