Well, if you're visiting Wilmington you'll want to walk the River Walk along the Cape Fear River (yes, that Robert Mitchum movie and later version of Cape Fear was filmed here!). The river has fast currents and is tidal as well which can make for tricky waters when boating. As a sailor, I travel on the Cape Fear River using the tides...difficult to fight them.
Beach you boat on one of the many island beaches between the ports and Southport, tie up at the city docks or Port City Marina for an afternoon of shopping or dining, Kayak up one of the many creeks and enjoy the variety of critters and plants, fish, sun or just cruise, explore the many historical sites along the way.... 更多
Seeing the Cape Fear from the Riverwalk is beautiful, especially on nice days out and is a good place to watch the sunset or people watch. However, there have been extensive renovations ongoing for months now that block large parts of the riverwalk. Also, as a local, it just gets old after awhile.
The boardwalk allows you to walk along the Cape Fear River, and there are a plethora of different eateries with seating which overlooks the CF river as well. The bridge connects between Wilmington and Leland and can be viewed from the boardwalk. You can also the see the battleship across the river which you can visit as well.
The Cape Fear River starts a couple of hundred miles from heare and all of it that I have seen so far is nice. I certaily love sitting in the Wilmington waterfront and watch the water, but dream of floating and paddling all the way down from its beginning or at least where the Haw river runs inot it .... 更多
The Cape Fear River is a beautiful place to stroll along the Boardwalk, visit the quaint shops, take a day or evening river cruise, or just sit and relax in the tranquil surroundings. Be sure to get your picture taken with the USS North Carolina in the background. The ship is permanently anchored on the river and tours are available.
The Cape Fear is always changing . In the morning the water can look very very rough. Always at night the water looks like glass. It is very beautiful.
