We stopped yesterday afternoon because we seldom pass a museum. This provides an excellent overview of past life on Ocracoke, including World War II.
Small and charming, eclectic displays throughout the structure provide an overview of Ocracoke Village's history. I had more questions than answers after going through every room. This island is frequented by those of us who come year after year after year and who love all things Ocracoke, although we know we will never be more than "off-islanders". This museum is for us. A quick trip through a lot of things: history, original families, local flora & fauna, and perhaps best of all: Ocracoke brogue. As soon... 更多
Well presented display of island heritage and culture. The entry has a gift shop and a wall depicting all the descendents of the original settlers still residing on the island. Very interesting items and setup. Short jaunt through is all it takes. Family friendly, but not hands on.
Not only is Ocracoke a unique gem but it is rich in it's culture. The Preservation Museum has captured a large cross section of life as it was in the past with artifacts and some videos.. We enjoyed so much that we have become members of the museum.
This well maintained museum is packed with all kinds of cool old stuff to see with a ataff that will gladly tell you the history on anything you ask about. Lots of antiques to look at and really cool old pictures. I think they only ask for a small donation but its definitely worth spending some time there.
