Went to try the new Now's Southwest Grill recently opened in New Bern. The first impression was a warning. When I opened the door I was greeted by a cacophony of noise which I have never heard before except when standing near an idling jet engine. They need some serious acoustic suppression in that space. Perfect for the entire family, it was clean and had many interesting artifacts and history. Friendly people, knowledgeable about the area.
excellant preservation of local fire department history with at least two steam engines, several horse drawn fire apparatus, memorabilia and exhibits. Renovations underway and interactive children's section being added. Located in old fire HQ station. Well worth a couple hours of your time and a must for firefighters!
This is a rare firemen's museum in that all the equipment has been used by local firemen. Therefore, you learn not just about how the stuff works, but also about the people who used it. It's a stunning building that was a fire station. A kids corner has been added to entertain little visitors.
If you like fire trucks this is a nice place to visit. It has the oldest fire engines used in New Bern dating all of the way back to the 1800's. The staff there are very friendly and gave us a personal tour of the museum. It is currently undergoing renovations and will soon have the upper floors open to... 更多
Our tour was led by a volunteer docent and he was very knowledgeable about the history of the museum. It is not a large place but the fire engines are well displayed in the original old firehouse. Very good deal for families with young children.
This was a nice stop. I would say worth the entrance fee. Five pieces of New Bern firefighting equipment from the 1890s to the 1920s. Great story about how the two fire companies of New Bern shared the same building and competed against each other. Not a "must see" but if you have time worth a stop.

While visiting my parents in Newbern we all visited this museum. It is a good little museum with the history of the Newbern fire department it has several nice examples of fire trucks and equipment. They are working to expand the museum and add more children's stuff, my 4 year old enjoyed it.
This museum recently moved to its new location in the historic downtown fire station. The docent gave us an excellent tour of the many pieces of fire equipment, some from the 1800's. Worth visiting even if you had been to the old location.
