We visited Emerald Village on their last open day of the season. Our little ones are into rocks lately so thought it would be fun to search for "gems". Got a medium bucket of gravel (likely enriched with semiprecious rough stones). Spent a few hours digging through and sorting. The have a great outdoor and indoor picnic area and the... 更多
Didn't pan for gems. The mine tour was self-guided and did not really go into a mine, just an undercut area. There were pieces of old rusty mining equipment lying around. The museum displays looked like junky items thrown into storerooms. The staff was friendly but the attraction itself just did not offer much. Not suitable for handicapped or strollers.
We stopped here as part of a tour. It was interesting but not the type of place you want to visit more than once. I would think families with children would like the experience of mining for gems.
We were here on a rainy day and probably wouldn't have gone but for the rain. It's just OK. The artifacts are not being kept properly. The place is in private hands and they're trying but really it's kind of a tourist trap.
This is an honest review. I live 2 hours away from Little Switzerland. Esmerald Village is located in Spruce Pine about 3 minutes to the Famous and beautiful Switzerland Inn and Big Lynn Lodge which in my opinion are fantastic places to stay if coming out of state. I bought a coupon from Groupon worth $11 for 4 people (... 更多
I took my two children to Emerald Mining to have the opportunity to mine for rocks. I paid for the two buckets and the kids started going through the sand to find their "treasures". We tried to ask the two employees sitting behind the desk for help in identifying several of the rocks and received the worst attitude that I... 更多
We went here on a whim, looking for somewhere entertaining to take our son who wanted to gem mine, pan for gold and see a cave! This has all of the above and more!! Absolutely gorgeous ride out to it as well! Absolutely worth the pricing! We saw some beautiful Rainbow Trouts in the Bon Ami mine! Great history in... 更多
We finally made it here after many stays in Little Switzerland. We thoroughly enjoyed our time at this stop. The mine and museum are an interesting way to spend a couple of hours discovering and exploring the site and the many artifacts from a bygone era. We were lucky enough to attend a great lecture and slide show about a... 更多
This is an interesting place to visit. The museum you walk through before reaching the mine was fascinating, with lots of old artifacts to see. The old mine is in a picturesque location, with abandoned machinery adding to the experience. The history of mining in the area features on large boards in the mine entrance, with some great old photographs.
