Very nice State Park. Easy drive to the summit with a couple of overlooks along the way. The trail at the top is easy to navigate but keep the kids away from the edge of the cliffs in a couple areas. Great picnic area and there is a restroom. I rally liked the markers along the way explaining how the... 更多
The view was amazing! We went on a clear day and could see for miles. It was peaceful and breathtaking. The hike was not as bad I as thought it would be.
Mount Jefferson State Natural Area has become one of our favorite day trips. We live about 2 hours away and love to head to Jefferson and West Jefferson to picnic and hike at Mt. Jeff. Driving into the park, you switch-back up the mountain. There are a couple of parking areas with great views of the town of Jefferson and... 更多
It is a nice drive to the top and then there are picnic tables and look out points for you to enjoy. The area was clean with plenty of parking for the crowd that was there. The view was phenomenal. I hope to return in the fall with the color changes.
The three overlooks, sunrise, sunset and jefferson are all really good places. They offer views for miles on a clear day. You can even see as far as Tennessee from the Sunset overlook. Walking trails are available, but we did not use those.
Stop by the ranger station at the entrance to get info. There are three overlooks with spectacular views for those that drive only. At the top of the road is a huge picnic area and shelter. There is a pretty amazing view from Luther Rock after a moderate hike. We learned all about swallowtail butterflies. Must see!
Mt Jefferson Natural Area is a nice little park right outside of Jefferson/West Jefferson NC. There is a road that runs throughout the park and takes you to some views that are honestly awesome. You can see the entire valley below and all the way to Mt Rogers several miles away. Definitely a spot to take a picnic or nice... 更多
They are still in the process of updating these trails. To get the most out of hiking you can park at the Ranger office near the bottom (you will see it on the left-hand side as you drive towards the top), then ask the Rangers to point you to the trailhead of the Mountain Ridge Trail, which is right across... 更多
