My husband and I were models for Ben Long and his assistants when this fresco was being created. My husband is Matthew, the Apostle on the far left. It was quite an amazing summer being part of this experience. The final work is so beautiful, and the church itself is a place of great peace.
There are two churches with frescoes painted by Ben Long and his students several decades back — one is this one and the other is in nearby West Jefferson. this was my first visit but i will absolutely be back. while the fresco is certainly worth seeing, it is the atmosphere of the place that impressed me most. i was quite lucky to be able to sit quietly in the beautiful little sanctuary and had to finally pull myself away. the grounds are so lovely although a bit sad... 更多
Beautiful and historic church, made famous by "The Last Supper" frescoe painted by noted artist Ben Long. Frescoes by Long's students as well as other artworks are just a bonus. A pre-recorded lecture/guide tells visitors about the church, its congregation, and the artwork. This was our second time as we did not see the undercroft last visit. It is so quiet and prayerful to sit there and look at the subject. We also went to the other church and felt the same way.
