This area of NC is impressive in itself, but then to see this Christian sanctuary of hope and healing is even more impressive! I purchased some pottery here, which I greatly cherish.
This is a wonderful place to stop and just admire (and buy) fantastically professional weaving. The section with the scarfs and poncho like tops is just beautiful. Take a side-trip from the Blue Ridge Parkway to visit the town of Crossnore. Here you will find the Crossnore School, Chapel, Weaver's Gallery and Blair Fraley Thrift Shop. All are worthwhile. Great place to visit on your trip to the mountains. You can see the weavers in action. It's something to see five looms going at the same time. You can purchase some outstanding scarfs, shawls, blankets and hats. Great place to find gifts for the holidays.
Went with friends to look at the weavers and their works. Beautiful scarves, shawls, and cloths. We also went to the thrift store. Bought a few things at Rock bottom prices. If you are in the Banner Elk/ Newland area, take time to visit Crossnore - home of the Crossnore School. The Crossnore Weavers is a lovely stop. The church has a famous frescoe; and their is a quiet labrynth to walk as well
While in Crossnore, visit the weavers gallery and giftshop. Down the hill from there, you can visit the Coffee Shop run by Crossnore students as well as the Blair Fraley thrift shop. All of these enterprises help support the school--founded in 1913 by the Sloops.
