You need water shoes for this beach. The area is known for the many pousadas and small shops that attract tourists. Also plenty of resto's and bars in this area. Be careful with "taxi drivers" that take your luggage in wheel barrels from the port to the pousada or bus stop to more remote places at 2a praia.
I would not waste my time here if you're looking for a peaceful beach. The sellers hound you in their attempt to sell various foods and material goods. As you walk you can see many boutiques, with very high prices. Is not a place to buy. You can avoid the first beach, and go straight to the second beach, don't loose your precious time.
