A short level walk on a groomed trail will lead to this very impressive waterfall. There is a large grassy park on the other side of the road bordering the lake. A very pretty spot for a picnic lunch. $7.00 parking fee required.
The falls are truly take your breath away. Bring your camera for perfect photo ops. There are a few different falls to take advantage of there some quite trails. Wear comfortable hiking shoes.
It's still early in the finger Lakes, and some gorges are closed to visitors. However this one was open, it was an easy walk, and very impressive.
One of my favorite New York State Parks. The park boasts the tallest falls East of the Mississippi River, and is located about 15 minutes north of Ithaca, NY on Cayuga Lake. The park has boat launches, summer concession stands, hiking, and lookouts at the top and bottom of Taughannock Falls.
We visited the end of March. Although the falls where falling, there was still lots of ice formations. Beautiful and hard to describe. We plan to go back in the summer when everything is green for a comparison and hike down to the bottom. Looking forward to it. Definitely worth the 2 mile drive off of the highway.
