Even though castle is open only on limited time, view of lower Manhattan and Brooklyn is very nice. There also are Staten Island Museum and quiet and pleasant walking paths that leads to camping area and to beach boardwalk.
Where can a truly panoramic view become real at a "Narrows" point ?! This is a must-see place on Staten Island ! Regular visits via bicycle for several years, and always interesting...!
We visited Staten Island for an event at the Ocean Breeze Complex and stayed within walking distance of the fort. With unseasonably warm weather, we took a great walk to the Fort. Although nothing seemed to be open and we just wandered around reading the signs, the views were spectacular - would love to come back in the Spring.
Walk or drive to the top of the property, overlooking all of NJ, Manhtn and Brooklyn harbors. It's located directly above the old, stone fortress. It is, simply, the best view of the City (in one woman's opinion) in the City.
I have lived within walking distance of the Fort for my whole life (32 years). For the past 10 years, it has turned into my meditation spot during my run.
