Built in 1894, The Saranac Laboratory was the first lab built in the U.S. for the research of tuberculosis. Historic Saranac Lake painstakingly restored the building and opened it as a museum in 2009. The museum is open with exhibits on scientific research and patient care. Historic Saranac Lake is not-for-profit architectural preservation organization that captures and presents local history from our center at the Saranac Laboratory Museum.

If, like me,you have driven past this museum dozens of times, stop and pay it a visit. I finally did wander in, and thoroughly enjoyed it. The museum building, which really had been the laboratory, is nicely laid out, with a mixture of old equipment and objects to look at, movies for those inclined, and personal stories. After visiting, take... 更多

A good stop for those interested in medical history or Adirondack history. Tells the story of TB treatment in Saranac Lake. It's small so won't take a big chunk of your day, though you can extend the experience by watching multiple videos and listening to the audio tour stations throughout the main floor. 1-2 hours. Near to Adirondack carousel and... 更多

This was a good stop. At $5 per person it was a good value. The "antique" medical equipment was exceptionally interesting. We were interested in how much some of the old instruments, that were viewed as quackery, resemble currently used medical techniques. We had some comparative experience having seen the "cottage style" form of therapy used with epilepsy in the... 更多

My husband and I stopped at the museum while driving through Saranac Lake. It is a very well organized museum - great artifacts, just the right amount of reading and audio spots. The woman on staff answered all of our questions and was very happy to talk with us. I learned so much about a little town I have been... 更多

Fascinating museum which provides the context of Saranac Lake's role as a recovery center for those suffering from tuberculosis from late 1800's until 1950. Sounds dull? Far from it! Learn about Dr. Trudeau, Cure Cottages, the true origin of the Saranac Lake Winter Carnival and so much more.

We found this small but highly informative museum most enlightening on the region's importance as a destination for convalescing TB patients. Dr. Trudeau's story is compelling, and the museum full of terrific old medical equipment and information. Highly recommended for students of medical history, those curious about an ailment once afflicting 1 in 7 Americans, and anyone interested in learning... 更多

So glad we took the time to stop by this museum. The story told here is one that highlights the advances of medical research. Also, the young woman working in the gift shop gave us some excellent suggestions for last minute lodging and dinner on a busy Friday evening.

It's not a huge museum by any means but it is very interesting to learn about the history of the cure cottages and the research that was performed right there in that building to find a cure for TB.

When we first walked in this place, I thought we would be done in 30 seconds based on the size. However, I have children that love sciences & history so this place was quite a find for them. The history behind this place is intriguing and the stories of patients kept us captivated. We spent quite a bit of time... 更多
