Spent a very warm summer evening here last Thurs for two reasons: to get out of the heat and to see a very interesting "Astronomy as Art" special exhibit. As always, the exhibit was fascinating and reflected the amazing variety of art collections that Vassar College seems to amass. What we were not expecting was a special performance of PowerHouse... 更多
Each time I visit the Frances Lehman Loeb Art Center at Vassar, I wonder why I don't go more often. The Gallery is a sparkling gem, with provocative, cutting edge exhibits, as well as wonderful permanent collection groupings. The setting is delightful, and the gallery is just the right size to see everything when you visit. And It's open late... 更多
The art center is just inside the main gate at Vassar College. The exhibitions change several times a year. They are small but beautifully displayed, with just the right amount of information to enhance your visit. They have a varied collection ranging from antiquities to contemporary works. When we visited there was a delightful display of treasures from the past,... 更多
The center has a very fine exhibit of American and European art with an impressive collection of Hudson River Valley School paintings. While just one or two each of the works of twentieth century artists such as Georgia O'Keeffe, Picasso, Pollock, Miro, etc., the selections were exquisite examples of their work. Well worth a visit!
Take advantage of one of the opening talks if you can. We go to see the show BEFORE the talk, because often they serve snacks, and that makes it crowded. But the talks are good and the art is fine. Plus, with a large endowment, this place is free. Hard to beat.
This is a great gem, wonderful collection, great exhibits and a wonderful Cesar Pelli building, definitely worth a stop, even if you're not viewing the college
This wonderful art center has grown over the years and now boasts a delightful, large space presenting the work of some of the most famous artists in the world. And this is on the beautiful campus of Vassar College! Not to be missed when in the Poughkeepsie area. Free of charge. Parking is a challenge.
