If you are traveling through the area this is a nice site to see. There is a little snack shop here and some information about the history of the dam. Worth a stop. The park is a beautiful place to spend the day.
Great tour of the dam including a video discussing the history of the Genesee River and the dam itself. A little bit of the walk down the hill to get to the dam but the view is great. Highly recommended.
The Mt. Morris dam has saved downstream communities billions in potential damage. The little museum has a great movie, and the tour guides are very well informed and welcome questions. The tour takes about an hour, and goes deep down into the dam. The nearby town of Mt. Morris is interesting, also, with a number of antique shops, restaurants and... 更多
What a great part of letchworth state park. Seeing all the turkey vultures and Hawks were cool, along with surprisingly hearing my kids giving me some info on the damn itself, love it. It was inspiring
Somewhat interesting tour mostly inside a big, damp, mound of concrete. Nice to say you did it, but the best views are outside in the park area. Some good PR for the Army Corp of Engineers, which I don’t begrudge. Would have been more interesting if it had been a hydroelectric dam (not flood control) but those are generally off-limits.
Doing a late summer/early fall visit to the dam, you'll note there's not much water up against the dam. That's because it comes in the spring. But it's got a great view of the gorge and is included in admission so should be visited while here!
The tour of the dam was very informative. I did not previously understand the value of a dry damn. The quality of engineering was highly evident. Seeing the inside and under ground mechanics of a dam was very interesting!! Our tour director was entertaining and knowledgeable. This is a great activity for all ages and it is free.
We visited the Dam during our Aug 2016 vacation. The view was amazing and the history was very interesting. A great place to learn about the area.
We got a great tour. I wasn't sure I would enjoy it as a large group with several children were doing the tour as part of a birthday party. The woman working for the Army Corp of Engineers was wonderful. the children were well behaved and the tour was informative and fun.
