We stopped by the ADK visitor center and got terrific information and suggestions based on our interests. As a result, we joined the club. Excellent. Recommend to all hikers of any ability.
Wonderful view of the high peaks of NY from the south. You pull into a large parking area surrounded by greenery and an info kiosk. In the cetetr is a display of the peaks on plexiglass. You can look at the actual peak through it's plexi representation and then look down for name and elevation While here take the road... 更多
If you happen to be in the area for a hike and have some questions on a route this is a good place to start. The folks here weren't overly friendly, but they were helpful. There are hikes in the area for any level of fitness and experience.
We visited the High Peaks Information Center after we had checked out of our stay at the Loj camping area. We went there to freshen up and get info about our planned hike to Ampersand Mountain. The facilities provided all we needed to clean up and get ready for the day, and the staff were helpful with information about the... 更多
As we were staying in the low season we went here to find out what there was to do in tghe surrounding area. We were served by a very friendly and knowledgeable lady who gave us enough information for weeks!
Hiked Mount Jo via the Long Trail. Reviews say this is the easier trail than the Short Trail. I can't speak for the Short Trail, but the Long Trail has some very challenging parts. My girlfriend and I are not the most fit people, and we were able to do it, but it is NOT a walk in the park... 更多
We went to the High Peaks Info Centre before hiking Algonquin Peak. If you forgot anything on your way to hike, this is the place to get stuff before you start your trek including maps. Employees will answer any questions you have and seemed to be knowledgeable about the different trails and their conditions. It does cost to park, or... 更多
A bit mixed. We went three times to the Loj as we had planned three treks. The first time the guy was not at all helpful and looked bored out of his mind. The two other occasions, however, were totally different and the staff were interested in what we had planned and were very helpful. If it had not been... 更多
If you visit Lake Placid, I highly recommend leaving town... and besides skating and skiing spend some time hiking around the High Peaks regions. It's amazing and the folks at the information centre are a great resource. Even though the coffee is terrible, it tastes so good after a long hike!
