It's right next door to Woodlawn Cemetery. It's worth visiting both. EVERYONE IN THIS COUNTRY SHOULD VISIT A NATIONAL CEMETERY ONCE. It reminds us of the price veterans and their families pay. A very interesting glimpse into the Civil War. At this National Cemetery, there are hundreds of graves of Confederate soldiers who died at Elmira Prison (and the remembrance of the African-American caretaker who dug the graves is very touching). And there are heroes here from WWi, WWII, Korea, Vietnam as well... real history to be remembered and memorialized.
On Memorial day it is beautiful to see all the flags on the graves. We were there before and after the holiday weekend. It's too bad the flags can't remain up longer but for mowing and trimming reasons it's not possible.
