We stopped by on our way to VT across the Lake Champlain bridge. There are lots of historical markers around the site explaining the history of the site, a museum (we did not check that out) and you can walk around to see some of the old buildings. Nice site and worth a stop.
If you are into history be sure to stop here after seeing the Lake Champlain Lighthouse just across the street. We hiked and climbed all around the battlements, which are rather extensive. Just a little piece of history of the area well-preserved.
The Crown Point State Historic Site in New York has much to offer. Both the video and exhibits in the museum provide excellent detailed information about the history of Fort St. Frederic and the Crown Point Fort. The ruins of both forts are interesting to explore and the surrounding views of Lake Champlain are beautiful. The Samuel de Champlain Tercentenary... 更多
This historic site of the old fort is well maintained and fully acessable to visitors at no charge. Beautiful views of Lake Champlain. This is a great spot to explore and have a picnic. Campgrounds are located near by.
We drove up from Ticonderoga after visiting Fort Ticonderoga; unfortunately the day we were here, the museum was closed so we just walk around a little to see the grounds - we had to be careful since restoration work was ongoing and we didn't want to trespass. The area is stunning - there's a bridge that connects Vermont to New... 更多
Nicely maintained fort ruins with a museum with history videos and guide. Many times throughout the year, there are historical reenactments and marches. Hiking and bird watching trails. There are a good variety of song birds, shore birds and raptors, including osprey and bald eagles. Benches available to view the bridge, lake and surrounding Adirondack mountains. There is also a pavillon... 更多
We were returning from a visit to Vermont and routed ourselves through Chimney Point VT and across Lake Champlain. I have traveled this route before but never took notice of the historic site. Decided to look it over and thrilled I did. From the road you don't see the remnants, not even from the parking lot. After reading a couple... 更多
The museum has information about the French and Indian Wars, which was never really explained to us in school. The French fort and the British control of the lower Lake Champlain area after the French abandoned their fort was explained. Ruins of both forts are found on this Point on the lower part of the Lake. The fort was also... 更多
The forts have a beautiful view. It is very interesting to look around but there isn't a lot to see. Nice spot to pull over for lunch. You can walk across the rd to the light house.
