The 1890 House is a castle that has been restored to the 1890 era. The house was owned by a wealthy wire manufacturer who owned Wickwire Brothers in Cortland. This estate has been preserved. It is an excellent historical place to visit in Cortland.
Experience the splendor of the late 19th century at the 1890 House Museum. With 15,000 square feet over four floors, explore Cortland's Castle room by room. Best time to visit is between Thanksgiving and Christmas when it's all decorated- Victorian style. Great experience at anytime of the year. Hours of operation: Thursdays to Saturdays 12-4
Took the tour of the 1890's house, although there was no tour guide (staff was short) they gave us a booklet describing each room which was informative, still wish we had a guide. The place is beautiful with original wood work and stained glass. Very interesting history worth the stop.
I haven't take the guided tour of the house, but I've been through it high and low for their Easter egg hunts, put on yearly for the local children. It's a gorgeous house, well preserved, with plenty to see even without the benefit of the guides! Staff have always been gracious and welcoming, which is noteworthy in the context of... 更多
Wassail ...Christmas...... a PERFECT time to visit this historic home. I put myself back in time, trying to imagine a Wickwire family Christmas.......cold outside, the laughter of children, the warm glow of the fireplaces.....it's 1890 all over again. No cars.....no buses....no I-pods.......just people.

Steve was our tour guide and his love and interest in the history and home shone through the entire 1 hour+ tour. I have done... 更多
We've toured and visited numerous times over the years--with and without guests. The sunroom, special exhibits, and docents make the visits enjoyable, especially for adults.
