The Kit Carson Museum is small, but very well done. If you're a history buff, you will love the artifacts and memorabilia of Kit Carson and his family. The 20 minute video is very good.
We visited the Kit Carson museum on our recent trip to Taos. The museum is in the home where he and his family lived. It was interesting seeing how he lived and reading and hearing about all of the information about his life and the work he did.
The famous Kit Carson lived here, a small house that is well preserved and definitely worth a look. Many pieces of memorabilia. Reasonable admission. Watch the video! The courtyard is so pretty. The home itself is tiny, it doesn't take long, but there are wonderful things to read about and check out in cases and on the walls. It is nicely done and kept.
No, it's not the same as his real home. Besides, Kit Carson was a controversial figure who was as much villain as American hero. Courageous to be sure, he was also cruel and self centered. The house and museum are touristy and second rate, yet worth the time to take a quick look
We toured the museum on a weekday morning. watched the video and walked the room.... somewhat disappointed especially for the fact we paid to tour a 4 room museum...
The Kit Carson Home and Museum was a nice introduction to the wild west as seen through the life of Kit Carson. A nice tour that didn't take too long and is walking distance from many places in Taos.
