The fort is in ruins but the country is flat and the trails are well kept. Although we wouldn't do this in a wheel chair without inflated large tires on the wheel chair. Not with standing that, there are many trails that criss cross on the 14.5 acre site and only one short set of stairs. The visitors center have... 更多
This isn't actually very close to Socorro. To me it was worth four miles down a dirt road. The fort was quite large and the ruins are still there. The path through the site is gravel and the signage is very good. A good stop for families so kids can expend some energy and possibly learn something.
I came across this site, quite by accident. While driving to another site, I saw a small sign on the roadway that read, "Fort Craig" with an arrow pointing to the right. What the heck, I thought. So I turned right. Another sign pointed left and into the desert. I was a bit leary, but then a sedan came up... 更多
This is a very interesting spot. It's a bit off the main road (not much) but worth the extra few miles. One problem is that the Visitor Center is not always open, and it's a plus if it is. Not spectacular, but nice especially for Civil War buffs.
Though this is slightly off the beaten path, we were glad we made the stop to see this historic old fort. The volunteer in the visitor center was very knowledgeable, and the self-guided trail was nicely done and very interesting.
This is a small, very out of the way ruin of a civil war era fort. It is manned by a volunteer who can answer all of your questions! The walk around the fort area is very interesting. Takes awhile to get there though.
A super place to visit to learn more about the forts of the west. The volunteer staff is totally amazing, the visitor center is a great introduciton.
This place is not too far off the highway, and if you are a history buff, as I am, you will like it. I always learn new things when I visit sites such as this. The docent on site was very helpful also, though it was last year when I visited.
Very isolated but that is part of its interest. For history buffs it is well worth the side trip to see the area involved in the Civil War in New Mexico. The visitor center may be small but it is filled with several displays. The park host was friendly and interesting to talk to. The paths are well marked and... 更多
This place is a ways off the highway, but I felt it was well worth the drive. When we visited during the week, we were the only ones there. The volunteer at the visitor center was very friendly, informative and helpful. Still some remnants of the old walls, so you can get a sense of how the old fort was... 更多
