We really enjoyed our visit here even though we could not go in the museum. The museum is only open on Saturday's but the Saturday we went, they lost the keys to the door so we could not get in. We will had fun wandering around the abandoned houses. It is creepy in a sense like a scene out of... 更多

Wear your walking shoes! This amazing historical site was worth the 2 and a half hour day. The musem was full of history as well(leave at least an hour alone for the officer house muesem). I loved all the old buildings and stories. Talk the Saturday tour with a retired military veteran (so worth it). No restrooms, just an out... 更多

This was the first place we visited upon arrival in Silver City. It's not far out of town right off the highway. Driving in it does look pretty dilapidated but as you drive up to the center of the fort you begin to get a picture of what it looked like in its heyday. The parade ground is surrounded by... 更多

Fort Bayard has a lot of history, I'm sure, but the derelict buildings speak of its past as a military outpost. The cemetery, however, is well kept and very interesting - Civil War soldiers laid to rest there. The gravestones had Christmas wreaths, a very nice touch.

Driving through this ghost fort is a very sobering experience. While it provides one with the opportunity to view the past,it also brings a tear as it has been completely abandoned and left to rot. The fort has a pulse and it is a very tragic way for such an honoured place to end up. While you walk the parade... 更多

I visited the National Cemetery where my Great Grand Uncle is buried. He served in the 7th U.S. Calvary until he contracted tuberculosis and was sent to Fort Bayard to recover. He was there for ten months before he died at the age of 23. The cemetery is smallish, but well maintained. It looked like a new construction building was... 更多

Staying in Silver City, NM, and visiting Gilla Cliff Dwelling National Monument, we happened on a highway sign for this site. This is an abandoned Army fort and National Cemetery. A quick drive through the cemetery reveals a number of interesting tombstones, some that we saw dating back into the 19th century. Then on to a tour of the fort... 更多

The visit to Fort Bayard was a tip from a server at a restaurant. When my husband asked where he would take photos, Luis suggested that we visit here. From its establishment in 1866, the service of the Buffalo Soldiers, through its use as a hospital, and tuberculosis research and treatment. General Crook and General Pershing, and the only known... 更多

Not a lot there, but interesting to see old abandoned buildings and there is a guided tour sometimes, but not while we were there

WE saw a flyer at the touirst info booth in silver city and decided to go see it. What a dissapointment. All there is to see is a mess of very old dilapidated, modern, buildings with a bunch of placards scattered around open fields that say here was this, here was that. I guess you are required to imagine what... 更多
