New Mexico has wonderful state parks (buy an annual pass!) and City of Rocks is no exception. When it is cold in Silver City it is worth the drive and usually warmer here - no excuse to stay indoors! We stopped here while we were spending a few days in Deming. It looked like a neat place for night photography if you camped in the park. Lots of really interesting things to look at, the rocks themselves are amazing, the camping area, the visitors center, and the solar outline, are really cool. We always have fun when we go.
If you ever had the sense that you are not alone...may I suggest that you visit here and just 'be'. Do not go there with any preconceived thoughts or wants. Just walk through these rocks and let you senses take you back....
Took a walking tour of the area, very relaxing, beautiful flowers, Scenery was amazing. We're both in our 70's so the paths available were great. Parking is free. We did see a few insects no mosquitos.
