Interesting stop for history lovers and those interested in wartime buildings and fortresses. The area is pretty open with no shade, so be sure to put on protection from the sun. It's also a bit odd to reach in that you go through Coast Guard property to access it which made it feel a bit forbidding. I wish there had... 更多
We stopped here for a picnic lunch on a long road trip. It was pleasant, but nothing super exciting. There are no picnic tables, so we sat on the rocks overlooking the ocean, so that was neat. Nice place for the kids to run around and get some exercise after sitting in the car a long time.
This place is located in the Coast Guard station. Not many parking spaces but we were the only ones there at that time. This is a beautiful fort right on the water right next to Portsmouth Harbor Light. It was first built in 1631 and it has an interesting history.
Ft. Constitution is a lovely place to pop in and visit a historic site with great views of the harbor. That's about it. You will have a very closeup view of Portsmouth Harbor Light because it's RIGHT THERE, but you'd probably need to be further back to really be able to see it well. You have to park and squeeze... 更多
Great location with an opportunity to walk back into history starting with Revolutionary War period. The atrraction is rather simple but location on Portsmouth Harbor affords some fantastic views. We had the run of the place on an early Friday afternoon, nice to have no crowds or other people around. Worth a stop for less than an hour, hold onto... 更多
Have stopped by here a number of times over the years. The best thing about this location is the views. As others have noted, the area could use a little TLC and more info / interpretive signage. You can walk around the property in 10-15 minutes ... but if you stop to enjoy the view and breezes ... I've also... 更多
This Fort was not what we had hoped for. There were no signs anywhere to help you understand the historic site and we left very disappointed. There were some nice views of the bay and the Maine coast but overall I would not take anyone back there
We made an early spring visit to Fort Constitution State Historic Site, one of several former forts on Portsmouth Harbor. The fort itself is in disrepair, and we were cautious of debris and other obstacles as we walked around. Interpretive signs are few, and those we found presented little information (I suggest visitors read about the fort and its long... 更多
Went to get a picture of the Portsmouth lighthouse and thought we would see the fort as well. It was a cold windy day so we didn't stay long. Although there is not a lot to do at the fort it does have some great views and its nice to learn a little history. Bonus is that the drive there... 更多
